Greencastle High School Band Endowment

Greencastle High School Band Trip - 2009

Year Founded
2009

Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to inspire pride and enthusiasm in the Greencastle community for the GHS Band.  Income from the Fund shall be used for hardware needs of the Greencastle High School Band program, such as repair and replacement of instruments, and purchase of music, music stands, and uniforms.

History of Fund
In the fall of 2009, Marjorie Secrest, a parent of quadruplets in Greencastle, Indiana was concerned by the lack of musical offerings that were being made available to students attending Greencastle High School.  When she inquired about the situation, she was told that public schools in Putnam County simply were not being funded at a level that allowed many course offerings in subjects that did not lead to high ISTEP and SAT scores.  Marjorie Secrest decided to do something to improve the situation.  With support from GHS Principal, Randall Corn, and Superintendent, Robert Green, Secrest established the Greencastle Band Endowment and began developing a plan to raise money for the fund.  She also applied for and received an Endowment Builder grant from the Putnam County Community Foundation that matched contributions to the Endowment 50 cents on the dollar.
