Sally H. Gray Community Endowment

Sally H. Gray
Sally H. Gray

Year Founded
2010

Purpose of Fund
Grants are awarded from the Sally H. Gray Community Endowment by the Board of Directors of the Putnam County Community Foundation to support the changing needs and aspirations of the people in Putnam County as the years go by.

History of Fund
Sally Gray has long had a reputation for being a problem solver – the type who recognizes an issue and actively pursues a solution. A DePauw economics teacher-cum-county judge, Sally founded the local “Prevention, Intervention and Education Coalition” to fight substance abuse in Putnam County and also became a substantial financial sponsor of the Foundation and, specifically, the Putnam County Museum. Sally’s hard work to make Putnam County a better place has not gone unnoticed – she was named Greencastle’s “Citizen of the Year” in 2005, the  “Woman Philanthropist of the Year” in 2008, and awarded the Community Foundation’s “Spirit of Philanthropy” award in 2010.

“She has been a leader for the good of the county in every endeavor, by seeing a need and providing leadership, cheerfully volunteering her time and finding others to volunteer as well, and giving her own money in support as well as being a very good fund raiser.  She retired from the bench so she could actively fundraise to contribute more to her community.  She leads by example.”
