Sherrie Walton Holley Endowment

Sherrie Walton Holley

Year Founded
2009

Purpose of Fund
Provide financial support for Deer Meadow Elementary School Library, Greencastle, Indiana, a governmental entity.  Funds should be used to purchase books and other library materials.  If the School should no longer exist, the fund should be used to support a public school library in Putnam County.

History of Fund

The endowment was named to honor the daughter of Aud and Elnora, Sherrie, who passed away in 1998.

Audrey “Aud” Walton was born in New Winchester, IN, later living in Carmel, IN.  His family moved to Stilesville, Indiana his junior year in high school, where he met Elnora Walters, his high school sweetheart.  They were married August 6, 1950, and Aud started college.  He graduated from Indiana Central (now the University of Indianapolis), then volunteered for the Army in September 1954.  He was in the Medical Corp, and stationed in San Pedro, CA and Ft. Belviour, VA.  After the service, he began his career teaching Social Studies and coaching basketball at North Salem Indiana, winning a sectional in 1960.  In 1962, he came to Greencastle Middle School as a teacher and guidance counselor.  In 1974 he went to Greencastle High School as Director of Guidance until he retired in 1989.

After they were married, Elnora worked at PSI and Allison Transmission helping Aud graduate from college.  Aud and Elnora have two daughters, Sherrie and Julie.  Sherrie Holley, mother of Byron and Samantha Holley, worked in all three Greencastle elementary libraries.  Aud and Elnora lost Sherrie to cancer in 1998.  Julie Carr, mother of Makenzie and Keith Carr, teaches second grade at Deer Meadow in Greencastle.

Aud and Elnora are members of First Baptist Church in Greencastle.  Aud joined Rotary in 1984 and became a Paul Harris Fellow in 2004.
