Current News 7th Grade Philanthropy Essay Winner Announced - Emma Bodnarick’s essay called “The Amazing Joe Liechty,” is the Grand Prize winner of the Community Foundation’s National Philanthropy Week Essay Contest. Miss Bodnarick is a student in Suzanne Funk’s 7th Grade Class at Greencastle Middle School. In recognition of her accomplishment, GMS will receive a grant of $500, and the Away Home Shelter will receive a grant of $150. Entries were accepted from 7th grade students in all four county school corporations. Community Foundation Holds Scholarship Forum - The Putnam County Community Foundation announced newly available scholarship funds at the Scholarship Forum, held on October 27 at the Dixie Chopper Business Center. Sponsored by Hendricks Power Coop, the Foundation’s Forum updates local leaders in education about Community Foundation scholarships. For the entire press release, click HERE. Community Foundation Announces New Scholarship - The Putnam County Community Foundation is pleased to announce a new scholarship. The Raymond & Marjorie Lisby Scholarship will help a Putnam County high school graduate pursue a degree in fine arts at DePauw University. To read entire article click HERE. Share the Dream Ends with Excitement - The Putnam County Community Foundation announced the winners of the 2011 Share the Dream Contest. The Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment earned the title for the most money donated. The Greencastle High School Alumni Association Scholarship acquired both the most new donors and the highest number of online gifts. There was a very close race for the most new donors, and the Asbury Endowment for the Arts came in a close second. Full-color printed copies of the 28 page report may also be picked up at the Putnam County Partnership Center, 2 South Jackson Street in Greencastle. Foundation Announces new Community Development Director -Dean Gambill has joined the Putnam County Community Foundation team as its new Director of Community Development. Gambill has served in the non-profit field for more than twenty years, and has experience in client advocacy, case management, non-profit administration, and ministerial work. His appointment, announced today by Elaine Peck, Executive Director of the Community Foundation, was effective March 21, 2011. Click HERE to read the entire press release. Foundation Announces Lilly Scholarship Finalists Six Putnam County students have been named as finalists for a full-tuition scholarship as the Putnam County Community Foundation's 2011 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar (LECS). In addition, the award will cover all required fees, along with an $800 book stipend per year, for four years to an accredited school in Indiana. Join us for a fantastic meal and support youth-led-service projects in Putnam County on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:00 to 9:00pm at Almost Home on the North side of the square in Greencastle. Grant Applications Due February 1st The Putnam County Community Foundation is seeking 501(c)(3) nonprofits, churches and government organizations to be partners in serving the local Putnam County community through the Community Grants Program. Preliminary grant applications are being accepted now and are due February 1, 2011. Miss Hewitt is a student in Micah Elliott’s 7th Grade Class at South Putnam Jr. Sr. High School. In recognition of her accomplishment, South Putnam will receive a grant of $500, and the Haley Bain Memorial Scholarship Fund will receive a grant of $150. Read more HERE. Community Foundation Awards $100,000 to Putnam RISE: The Putnam County Community Foundation has awarded its $100,000.00 Envision 2011 grant to Putnam RISE, an initiative of the Greencastle Sustainability Commission. After much deliberation by the Community Foundation Board of Directors and Grants Committee, it was determined that the Putnam RISE grant proposal met all of the criteria and created a wave of excitement in the community that the Foundation is proud to support. Read more HERE. Community Foundation Celebrates 25 Years: The Putnam County Community Foundation celebrated its 25th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, October 2nd. The Community Foundation Board and Therese Cunningham State Farm Insurance, as event sponsor, entertained the 210 community members in attendance. The celebration included a $100,000 grant presentation and the first-ever Corinthian Society induction. Read more HERE. South Putnam High School Has New Scholarship: The Putnam County Community Foundation is pleased to announce a new scholarship will be awarded to South Putnam High School graduates beginning in 2011. “It is actually one of the oldest endowments administered by the Community Foundation,” said Elaine Peck, Executive Director of the Community Foundation. “It did not start growing until the last few years.” Grant Applications Due August 1st: The Putnam County Community Foundation is seeking 501(c)(3) nonprofits, churches and units of government to be partners in serving the local Putnam County community. Grants Available for Youth Projects, Applications Due July 15th: The Foundation announces the availability of grants for groups of youth in Putnam County conducting charitable service projects, including school and church groups, scouting organizations, 4-H clubs, and any other youth group.
