Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County Endowment
Year Founded Purpose of Fund History of Fund The Heritage Preservation Society (HPS), directed by Lee Stewart prepared, deconstructed, moved, relocated and reconstructed the circa 1839 log cabin. The cabin, once the home of the Woods family and their 14 children and the Jack and Thelma Swope family was originally located on a farm in southeastern Putnam County. The cabin was donated to the HPS by Wilena and Gary Hawkins in memory of Elmer and Gladys Ferrell prior to the sale of the farm. On July 21, 2007 the Heritage Preservation Society conducted a "cabin raising" and many volunteers with equipment, tools, and strong backs rebuilt the skeleton of the cabin at the Cloverdale City Park site in Cloverdale, Indiana. In April 2007 the HPS became affiliate members of the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana. Donations are still accepted for the maintenance of the cabin by HPS. |
