Year Founded
1995

Founder

Charles D. & Ann Chandler

Purpose of Fund

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide support as directed by the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Community Foundation for educational scholarships for students who attend an accredited educational organization that normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and has a regularly enrolled body of students as described in Code Section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii).  Consistent with the charitable purposes of the Community Foundation, distributions from this Fund will be used primarily to provide scholarships in accordance with the criteria contained in Exhibit A to this Agreement and the Community Foundation’s policies and procedures for scholarship funds as they may be amended from time to time.

History of Fund

The fund was originally created to provide unrestricted financial support for Opportunity Housing.

In 2015, the Board of Directors of Opportunity Housing requested that the purpose of the Endowment be changed to offer scholarships to low-income adults.  Donors to the Endowment were consulted and supported the change in purpose.  On November 23, 2015, the Board of Directors of the Putnam County Community Foundation approved the change of purpose.  On April 23, 2018, the Board of Directors approved the scholarship eligibility criteria and application.
