Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to support research into the causes and treatment of cancer. It is understood that award recipients may not be members and family members of advisory committees or the Foundation Board.

History of Fund
The Putnam County Memorial Cancer Research Fund was established by a Greencastle couple in memory of their daughter, who lost her battle with cancer at a young age. The couple imagines the fund serving as a means for collecting, honoring, and preserving the memories of loved ones who struggled to survive cancer, but also a means to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors.

The contributions to the fund will never be spent. Instead they will be protected and invested and a percentage of the earnings will be used each year to support cancer research in perpetuity. Each year the Community Foundation is responsible to determine which worthy cancer research project in the state and the nation to support.

To honor someone special and support cancer research at the same time, make your contribution payable to the Putnam County Community Foundation and note in the memo that it is for the Cancer Research Fund. Memorial contributions of $25 or more will be recognized in a special weekly ad in the Banner Graphic unless directed otherwise.
